Mall of Africa, Shopping mall in Waterfall City, South Africa
The Mall of Africa is a large shopping center in Johannesburg with over 300 stores spread across two main levels. It combines local and international retailers in a modern building with multiple corridors and gathering spaces.
Construction began in 2012 as a major retail development project and opened to the public in 2016. The opening marked an important moment for shopping in the region.
The corridors are designed around different African regions, with sections that reflect landscapes and natural features from across the continent. You walk through areas inspired by the Sahara and Southern Africa's terrain as you explore the shops.
The mall is easy to navigate with elevators and stairs throughout, and it has extensive parking available. There is also direct access to a public park through an outdoor restaurant area, making it easy to take a break outside.
Several major international brands opened their first South African stores here. This made the center a place where you could find products that were not previously available in the country.
