Viva Chapata
Viva Chapata is a restaurant and pub in Madrid's Lavapiés neighborhood offering a fully vegan menu. The menu features chapata sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, arepas, and homemade cakes, all prepared from plant-based ingredients.
The restaurant opened in 1998 and long served guests with traditional dishes. In May 2020, the owner switched to an entirely vegan menu, attracting a growing number of customers interested in plant-based eating.
Viva Chapata takes its name from chapata bread, which sits at the heart of the menu and echoes Spain's tradition of shared eating. The place works as an informal gathering spot where people come for lunch, drinks, or simply to spend time with friends.
The restaurant opens in the morning at 10 am and serves breakfast until 1 pm with fresh juices, yogurt, avocado toast, and pastries. Tuesday through Friday between 1 pm and 4 pm, a fixed-price lunch menu offers starters, a main dish, a drink, and dessert.
A standout dish is a vegan Spanish tortilla that mimics the texture and flavor of the classic dish while being entirely plant-based. This adaptation shows how the place rethinks traditional Spanish recipes for plant-based eating without losing authentic taste.
