Miner’s Diner
Miner's Diner is an American restaurant in Julian, San Diego County, housed in an 1886 building that originally served as the town's first brick structure. The space features the original 1929 soda fountain, vintage decor including license plates and old bottles, a toy train that runs overhead, and seating at both a counter and tables throughout.
The building was constructed in 1886 by Levi & Co. as Julian's first brick structure and initially operated as a general store. Through the decades it served as a drugstore, cafe, and bakery before Fred and Misty Dornon purchased it in 2014 and renovated it into its current diner form.
Miner's Diner takes its name from Julian's gold mining heritage, which still shapes how the town feels today. Visitors experience this connection through the vintage soda fountain, old decorations, and the way locals gather here as part of their daily routine.
The diner opens Friday through Monday with breakfast service ending at 10:30 AM, followed by lunch and afternoon service. Expect potential wait times exceeding two hours on weekends and holidays, particularly during the popular apple harvest season in fall.
The space doubles as a playful venue with a toy train running overhead and an attached candy shop called the Candy Mine. Visitors can mix their own soda fountain drinks at the original 1929 fountain and enjoy hand-scooped milkshakes made with whole milk that many guests say are the best they have ever tasted.
