Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, Autograph Collection
Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is a large hotel in the village of Kananaskis in Alberta that brings travelers close to natural surroundings and outdoor activities. The building uses natural materials and earthy colors, large windows show mountain views, and spacious rooms with full comfort offer rest for guests after active days.
The lodge was built in 1986 for the Winter Olympics held in Calgary and was meant to support alpine ski events at the nearby Nakiska ski resort. In 2015, the building underwent a major renovation to modernize its appearance and facilities.
The name Kananaskis comes from Indigenous peoples who inhabited this region long before the lodge was built. Visitors today can feel the connection to the land and natural traditions that shape the valley.
The lodge is about one hour's drive from Calgary and is easily accessible by car, making it a perfect retreat from the city's pace. Nearby you will find ski slopes and golf courses, and from here visitors can reach Banff in under one hour or Lake Louise in about one and a half hours.
A special cocktail to try at the Blacktail bar is the S'mores Old Fashioned, made with Scotch, whiskey, chocolate bitters, and a honey-cinnamon syrup. The drink is smoked with honey-cinnamon syrup and captures the warmth and flavors of the mountain setting.
