Namaste
Namaste is an Indian restaurant in Ashdod located in a Moorish-style building on the ground floor near the sea promenade. Two chefs from India prepare dishes mainly from northern India, using vegetables and coconut milk to meet kosher requirements, with flavors built from strong herbs and spices at medium heat levels.
The restaurant opened in 1991 and has been serving the Ashdod community with authentic Indian cuisine since then. Its founding marks the arrival of this culinary tradition in the city through Indian Jewish communities establishing their food culture in Israel.
The name "Namaste" comes from Sanskrit and means a respectful greeting in India. Today this sense of welcome shows in how the restaurant greets visitors and serves them, especially through staff from Israeli Jewish communities of Indian origin who embody the connection between both cultures.
The location is easy to reach with ample free parking nearby, though it can get busy when the beach is crowded. Reservations are recommended especially on weekends, as the restaurant seats up to 100 guests and fills up quickly.
The restaurant employs mainly Israeli workers from Indian Jewish communities and is run by two actual Indian chefs, creating a rare combination. This blend allows for both authentic Indian flavors and dishes that follow kosher rules, making them accessible to a wide audience.
