Ashdod Light, Maritime navigation tower on Yona Hill in Ashdod, Israel
Ashdod Light is a concrete lighthouse standing on Yona Hill with a height of about 42 meters. The cylindrical tower features a gray concrete base with a distinctive red and white checkerboard pattern in its upper section.
The facility began operations in 1966 and received its optical system from the decommissioned lighthouse in Jaffa that same year. It has been an important part of Mediterranean maritime infrastructure since its establishment.
The lighthouse serves as a familiar landmark for locals and visitors who work at the port or explore the waterfront. Its distinctive red and white pattern makes it easily recognizable as a reference point in the harbor landscape.
The lighthouse stands on the northwest side of the harbor where it is clearly visible from the water. Visitors can explore the area from nearby public spaces and observe the structure from the harbor front or from Yona Hill.
The lighthouse emits three white flashes every 20 seconds, a distinctive pattern that ships on the Mediterranean can recognize within a range of about 22 nautical miles. This signal system makes it a reliable navigation aid that stands out from other beacons along the coast.
