House of Nicolaus Copernicus, History museum in Stare Miasto, Poland.
The House of Nicolaus Copernicus is a museum housed in two connected Gothic townhouses displaying astronomical instruments and objects from the scholar's time. The rooms retain their original structure with wooden beams, fireplaces, and period details that show how a wealthy merchant's home was organized.
The building dates to the 15th century and was the birthplace of the renowned astronomer. His family occupied this house during a period when Danzig was becoming a major trading hub in Northern Europe.
The medieval rooms show how wealthy merchant families lived and worked during the Renaissance period. Narrow corridors and small chambers reveal the daily routines of a Hanseatic trading family in the 15th century.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday for visitors, with audio guides available in multiple languages. The building includes an elevator for accessible entry to the different levels.
The preserved medieval roof structure allows visitors to observe the sky from above and connect with the astronomical interests of young Copernicus. This vantage point from the roof level shows how natural observation from his childhood home may have shaped his early curiosity.
