Café d'Anvers, Restaurant in East Harlem, Manhattan, US
Café d'Anvers is a Belgian-French bistro in East Harlem, Manhattan, that grew out of a chocolate mousse bar. The menu focuses on classic dishes like moules frites, steak frites, and shrimp croquettes, alongside house-made mousse desserts.
Chef Johan Halsberghe brought a family chocolate mousse recipe from Belgium and opened MOJO Mousse Bar on 100th Street in 2020. By 2024, the project had grown into a full bistro, bringing Belgian and French cooking to the neighborhood.
The restaurant sits in East Harlem and is easy to reach on foot from the Lexington Avenue corridor. Those in a hurry can pick up a burger and fries at a small sidewalk window without going inside.
The thick-cut fries are fried in animal fat, a method considered the base of proper Belgian fries. At the bar, visitors can talk directly with the owners about the selection of Trappist beers on the menu.
