Casa Patacona, Mediterranean restaurant in La Patacona beach, Spain.
Casa Patacona is a beachfront restaurant on Patacona beach in Alboraia, just north of Valencia, built around a converted chalet with three separate terraces on different levels. The upper terrace sits higher than the others and looks directly out over the sea and the Valencia coastline.
The restaurant opened in July 2013 when Vicente Barbera converted a beachside chalet into a dining space, making it the second restaurant to open on Patacona beach. The conversion brought a new kind of sit-down dining to a stretch of shore that had little of it before.
The kitchen focuses on Valencian rice dishes, with several paella styles prepared using seafood and local ingredients typical of this stretch of coast. Eating paella by the sea in this area is a deeply rooted local habit, especially on weekends.
The restaurant sits right on the beach and is easy to find on foot once you reach the Patacona promenade. Since there are several terrace levels, it is worth asking which one is open on the day you arrive, as conditions can vary.
The cooks here are trained specifically in hot dish preparation, which is not common in many beach bars that tend to focus on cold food and snacks. This training matters most for the rice dishes, which need precise timing to get right.
