Hotel Ukraine was a three-star establishment in the heart of Chernihiv with 93 rooms of varying types, each equipped with cable television, air conditioning, a small safe, and a refrigerator. Located roughly 200 meters from Red Square, it sat within reach of shops, the main post office, banks, and a theatre.
Hotel Ukraine opened in 1961 during the Soviet era and served as lodging for travelers in the city center for over 60 years. On March 12, 2022, the building was destroyed by a missile strike during the conflict in Ukraine.
The hotel was a familiar stopping point in the city center during the Soviet era and reflected the straightforward architectural style of that period. Visitors used it as a base to access the nearby shops, markets, and historic sites that defined daily life in Chernihiv.
The hotel offered basic comforts and convenient access for exploring on foot, with shops and services readily nearby. A secure parking yard on the premises could accommodate multiple vehicles and operated nearly around the clock, making car travel practical for guests.
The building was completely destroyed by a missile strike on March 12, 2022, during the period of conflict that heavily impacted Chernihiv. The former site remains today as a reminder of the hotel's history and the city's resilience.
