Il Mercato, Italian restaurant in Santo António, Portugal
Il Mercato is a restaurant and Italian products market in Santo António, serving fresh pasta, pizzas, and a curated selection of ingredients from across Italy. The kitchen sits adjacent to the retail area, allowing diners to watch their meals being prepared while shopping for quality ingredients at the same time.
The concept of a combined market restaurant came to this Lisbon neighborhood in 2016 through Chef Tanka Sapkota. This blend of dining and retail was new to the area and created a different way of experiencing Italian food culture.
The space showcases products with protected designations of origin such as Parmigiano Reggiano Vacche Rosse and Culatello di Zibello from different Italian regions. This blend of dining and shopping brings an Italian market culture directly into the daily experience of visitors.
The restaurant is located in Pateo Bagatela and features an outdoor terrace area. Reservations are available and recommended, especially for private events, though walk-in guests are also welcome.
The establishment functions as a specialty food shop where visitors can purchase authentic Italian ingredients ranging from specialty flours to regional cheeses. This two-in-one approach lets people take home the same food they just enjoyed eating.
