Casa do Sardo, Italian seafood restaurant in São Cristóvão, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Casa do Sardo is a Sardinian seafood restaurant in the São Cristóvão neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, set inside a historic residential building. The dining room seats around 50 people and pairs the feel of an old house with a menu centered on fish, seafood, and pasta.
Silvio Podda, a native of Sardinia, founded the restaurant in 2010 after moving to Brazil and bringing his culinary background with him. He had already run a Sardinian restaurant back on the island before making the move to Rio de Janeiro.
The walls of the dining room are covered with Sardinian flags and black-and-white photographs that reflect the owner's roots. The menu follows recipes from the island, with pasta and seafood prepared as they would be in a home kitchen in Sardinia.
The restaurant sits in São Cristóvão, a residential neighborhood a bit removed from the main tourist areas of Rio de Janeiro. Booking a table in advance is a good idea, especially for weekend visits.
The restaurant runs an online shop where visitors can buy Sardinian products such as cheese, cured meats, and pasta. This lets guests take the flavors of the island home with them after their visit.
