The Ahwahnee Bar
The Ahwahnee Bar is located inside the historic Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite and offers a relaxed setting with drinks and light food. The space features both indoor seating and outdoor tables where guests can take in views of the park's cliffs and forests.
The hotel opened in 1927 and served briefly as a naval hospital during World War II with up to 853 patients at once. The bar itself was originally a private lounge called El Dorado Diggins, designed to resemble a gold rush-era mining town.
The bar takes its name from the Ahwahneechee people who originally lived in Yosemite Valley, keeping their history present in this gathering place. Today it serves as a social spot where visitors share stories and find connection after days spent exploring the park.
Visitors can stop by to relax after spending time in the park, whether staying at the hotel or just passing through. Outdoor seating is available during warmer months, and heated patio areas keep the outdoor space comfortable even when weather cools down.
The space was once a popular gathering spot for sailors during wartime who came here to buy beer and socialize. The original gold rush design still shapes the room today, creating a nostalgic connection to this unusual chapter in the hotel's past.
