Yosemite Village Historic District, Historic district in Yosemite National Park, United States
Yosemite Village Historic District is a settlement area in Yosemite Valley located north of the Merced River that includes residences, administrative buildings, and service facilities. The area contains multiple structures of varying sizes developed gradually over more than a century.
The settlement started in the 1860s when early pioneers built cabins in the valley before government agencies took over the area. It later became the park's central administrative hub and has remained the main service zone ever since.
The settlement reflects how early park planners approached visitor services by using simple, locally inspired architecture that fits naturally into the surroundings. The buildings show the everyday choices about how to build and live while respecting the natural landscape.
The area is easy to explore on foot since buildings are spread along short paths and visitors find information stations and basic facilities throughout. It helps to visit early in the day before crowds build up in the valley.
A handful of original Army buildings from before the park was founded still stand in this area, serving as quiet reminders of an earlier management period. These plain structures stand out from the more developed park buildings that came later.
