Palm Express, Rideable miniature railway in Palmengarten, Frankfurt, Germany.
Palm Express is a miniature railway that runs through Palmengarten in Frankfurt, Germany, with tracks covering over six hundred fifty meters across the northern and western parts of the botanical garden. Two terminal stations and a wooden depot building serve the line, which carries passengers in several carriages through the grounds.
An electric railway began running in the eastern part of Palmengarten in 1881 and became one of the first of its kind in Frankfurt. After several changes and a rebuild in 2012, the railway closed permanently in September 2021.
The 2012 train design replicated the appearance of an 1884 Frankfurt-Offenbach electric tram, connecting visitors to the region's transportation heritage.
The railway no longer operates, but the route and station buildings remain visible within the garden. Visitors can spot the former stops and the depot while walking through Palmengarten.
The 2012 carriages were designed to look like an electric tram that ran between Frankfurt and Offenbach starting in 1884. This replica recalls the early years of public transport in the region.
