Papageno Musiktheater, Musical theater building in Palmengarten, Frankfurt, Germany.
Papageno Musiktheater is a musical theater building located next to Frankfurt's Palmengarten. It features a climate-controlled hall with approximately 200 seats in a distinctive steel arch design and presents operas, operettas, and musicals for audiences of all ages.
The theater was founded in 1997 by Hans-Dieter and Renate Maienschein and initially performed in the Siesmayer Hall. Following several relocations, including a period in a circus tent, it found its current home beside the Palmengarten.
The name comes from Mozart's Papageno, a character from The Magic Flute known for music and lightheartedness. This operatic connection shapes how visitors experience the venue and its programming throughout the year.
The theater is located on Zeppelinallee near the Palmengarten entrance and is easily accessible on foot. Performances are scheduled throughout the day for different age groups, so visitors can plan a visit to match their schedule and interests.
In 2019, the theater premiered the musical drama 'Die Kinder der toten Stadt,' which tells the true stories of children in the Theresienstadt ghetto. This production demonstrates how the venue stages historically significant narratives for its audiences.
