Plage du Val, beach in Saint-Malo
Plage du Val is a sand beach located in the Rothéneuf neighborhood north of Saint-Malo, with fine, light-colored sand and moderate water conditions year-round. The beach is framed by residential buildings and features a ramp for people with mobility restrictions, a rescue post during summer months, and basic facilities such as toilets and drinking water nearby.
Plage du Val developed as a bathing beach from the 19th century onward as coastal recreation became popular in the region. The beach was later equipped with modern access structures and safety measures to enable use by visitors of all abilities.
The name Plage du Val comes from its location in a valley surrounded by the Rothéneuf hills. Today visitors use it mainly for family outings and relaxation, while the nearby residential neighborhood gives it a peaceful, lived-in quality rather than a touristy feel.
The beach can be reached on foot from Rothéneuf center via Rue du Goéland; parking is available nearby. Visitors should note that pets are not allowed on the sand from April through September and that rescue staff are present only during warmer months.
Nearby are the Rochers Sculptés, a series of carved sculptures and statues impressively cut into the rock at the tip of Rothéneuf. These artworks are partially visible from the beach promenade and create a connection between relaxed beach time and artistic heritage.
