Osu Shōtengai Shopping Street

The Osu Shopping District extends through eight covered streets containing more than 1,200 shops, restaurants, electronics stores, and clothing boutiques.

The district emerged in the early 1600s after Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu relocated the Shinfukuji temple to establish Osu Kannon in this location.

The Osu Daido-chonin Festival in October and the Setsubun treasure ship parade in February represent local traditions through street performances.

Visitors can access the shopping district from Kamimaezu Station or Osu Kannon Station on the Tsurumai and Meijo subway lines.

The Shinpukuji Library beneath Osu Kannon Temple houses a collection of 15,000 historical texts from Japanese literature and Buddhist teachings.
