Praia Grande de Almograve

Praia Grande de Almograve is a sandy beach along the Portuguese coast situated between red cliffs and dark rock formations. The shore stretches for a considerable distance and features strong Atlantic waves, with gentle dunes in the north and steep rock outcrops at the south.

The beach was included in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, a designation that has shaped its preservation over time. This protected status has kept it free from significant development or major changes to its natural character.

Local fishermen work along the southern end near Porto das Lapas das Pombas, where you can observe how fishing remains part of daily life here. Watching their routines gives you a sense of how people have connected to this stretch of coast for a long time.

Access to the beach is provided through staircases leading down from a clifftop parking area. The facilities are basic, and lifeguard services operate only during the warmer months.

The northern section has soft sand dunes that constantly shift with wind and ocean movement. This dynamic landscape contrasts sharply with the stable rock cliffs found at the southern end.
