Cala Brandinchi, Protected beach in Santu Diadòru, Italy
Cala Brandinchi is a protected beach along the coast of San Teodoro with roughly 400 meters of white sand bordered by pine forests and Mediterranean scrub. The water is shallow and light colored along the shoreline.
The port at Brandinchi served as a strategic departure point in 1867 when Giuseppe Garibaldi fled from there during his attempt to liberate Rome from papal control. This event was part of the political struggles that defined Italian unification.
The name recalls a historic port, and the shoreline displays typical Sardinian coastal features with low vegetation and pine groves extending down to the water's edge.
Visitors can rent umbrellas, lounge chairs, pedal boats, and paddleboards, with coin-operated showers and restrooms on site. The beach is straightforward to access and has the basics needed for a day visit.
A natural lagoon sits behind the beach and draws pink flamingos while serving as a nesting ground for various Mediterranean water birds. This wetland zone is an important refuge for wildlife and often visible from the shoreline.
