Spiaggia di Porto Istana, Sand beach near Olbia, Sardinia, Italy

Spiaggia di Porto Istana is a sand beach on the northeastern coast of Sardinia, at the base of the Capo Ceraso promontory near Olbia. The shoreline is divided into several small coves by low outcrops of pink granite, with fine white sand sloping gently into shallow green water.

The coast around Capo Ceraso has served as a reference point for sailors since ancient times, marking the northern edge of the Gulf of Olbia. The beach itself remained largely undeveloped until the growth of tourism in Sardinia during the 20th century brought roads and facilities to this stretch of shore.

The name Porto Istana refers to the small port that defines the bay's daily rhythm, with fishing boats and small yachts coming and going through the day. The harbor serves everyday coastal life rather than large vessels, giving the whole area an unhurried, local feel.

The beach is about 6 miles (10 km) from Olbia and easy to reach by car via the SS 125 road, with a bus connection from the city as well. Parking areas sit close to the sand, some free and some paid; on busy summer days the free spaces fill early, so arriving before mid-morning helps.

The beach benefits from natural wind protection when the mistral or strong northwest winds blow, because the hills of Capo Ceraso shield it directly. This means the water stays calm here on days when nearby beaches can become choppy and less comfortable.
