Monkey Town
Monkey Town is a zoo and sanctuary near Somerset West, outside Cape Town, where many primates and other animals live in semi-open areas. The park features ponds with koi fish, various bird species, small antelope, a farmyard area, playgrounds, swimming pools, and dining facilities.
The sanctuary was founded over 20 years ago when the founder rescued her first monkey, a brown capuchin, and started caring for primates in need. Since then, the facility has provided shelter to nearly 300 monkeys and expanded into a larger park and visitor destination.
Monkey Town takes its name from the primates that live here, reflecting a direct connection between visitors and these animals. The place functions as a learning space where children can interact with monkeys and develop a sense of care for wildlife.
The park is open daily from morning until late afternoon and features an enclosed pathway so you can view animals safely without getting too close. Bring fruit or vegetables to feed the monkeys, and plan time for swimming, play areas, and meals at the on-site restaurant.
Peacocks roam freely throughout the park and often visit guests as a surprise during their time there. These unexpected encounters with colorful birds create memorable moments, especially for children.
