Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo, Zoo and aquarium on Koh Samui, Thailand
The Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo is a combined aquarium and zoo on the southeast coast of Koh Samui, Thailand. The grounds include saltwater tanks with fish and sharks, enclosures for Bengal tigers and birds, and shaded garden paths connecting each area.
The attraction opened in the late 1990s with a focus on regional wildlife and marine life from the Gulf of Thailand. Over the following years it added new animal species and updated its enclosures to reflect changing care standards.
The tigers at the zoo belong to the Indochinese subspecies, native to parts of Southeast Asia. Watching them eat or rest gives visitors a direct sense of how large and powerful these cats are in person.
Arriving early in the day is a good idea since the animals tend to be more active and the crowds are smaller. Wear comfortable shoes, as the visit involves walking along outdoor paths between tanks and enclosures.
Some of the aquarium tanks display fish species collected specifically from the Gulf of Thailand, which are rarely seen in other aquariums around the world. On-site there is also a restaurant with a sea view, so visitors can watch the water while eating after their tour.
