Ascension Church, Ko Samui

The Ascension Church is an Eastern Orthodox house of worship on Ko Samui featuring white walls, golden domes, and ornamental crosses. The structure sits near the shoreline and blends Byzantine architectural elements with its tropical surroundings.

The church was founded by Oleg to serve the spiritual needs of Orthodox Christians in the Surat Thani region. The project emerged from a desire to support a foreign religious community in this tropical area.

The church preserves Eastern Orthodox traditions through regular liturgical services in a predominantly Buddhist region. Visitors experience Byzantine customs blended with local hospitality and spiritual practices.

The church is easily accessible on foot and offers visitors the opportunity to attend prayers and services. It is advisable to wear appropriate clothing and check service times in advance of your visit.

The church is one of the few Orthodox worship sites in Thailand and was built by Russian expatriates. It stands as an unexpected landmark in a Buddhist-majority area and reflects the spiritual diversity found on the island.
