Exotic Garden and Zoo of Sanary-Bandol, Zoo in Sanary-sur-Mer, France
The Exotic Garden and Zoo of Sanary-Bandol is a facility near the Mediterranean coast combining animals and plants in one space. The 2-hectare grounds display mammal species such as servals and armadillos, various bird types including red flamingos, reptiles, and a botanical garden featuring tropical and carnivorous plant collections.
The facility began in the late 1950s when a couple from Marseille with expertise in cactus cultivation opened the grounds. Their initial focus on plants eventually expanded to include diverse animal species.
The place serves as a community gathering spot where families spend time learning about animals and plants together. You will notice regular demonstrations and talks that help visitors understand the creatures living here.
The grounds stay open until 8 PM during July and August, offering extended summer hours. For the rest of the year, regular visiting hours run from 9:30 AM to 6 PM.
The grounds blend a botanical garden featuring carnivorous plants alongside animal enclosures in an unusual combination. This mix allows visitors to experience nature in several distinct forms during a single visit.
