Parc animalier de Casteil

The Parc animalier de Casteil is a wildlife park situated at the base of Mont Canigou in a mountainous region, housing more than 300 animals. A walking trail guides visitors through naturalistic enclosures displaying different species in their surroundings.

The park grew from a regional wildlife reserve and developed into an educational institution focused on animal protection. Many of its residents were rescued from circuses and private ownership situations.

The facility is named after its location in Casteil and displays animals in enclosures designed to mirror their natural habitats. Visitors experience the creatures in settings that resemble their wild homes more than traditional zoo environments.

Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes as the path crosses hilly terrain and requires extended time on foot. The park offers routes suited to different fitness levels, allowing everyone to set their own pace.

Visitors can reserve observation cabins overlooking the wolf enclosure for overnight stays between May and October. This experience allows watching the pack's behavior and activities during twilight and nighttime hours.
