Pier Park

Pier Park is an entertainment area at Navy Pier in Chicago that spreads several rides and games along the long platform over the water. The facilities run along the waterfront promenade and offer direct views of the water and the downtown towers.

The entertainment facilities developed after several transformations of the pier, which originally opened in 1916 as a cargo dock. Over the following decades, the site gradually changed from a freight port into a public leisure area with rides and events.

The area draws families from across the region who stroll between rides, games, and food stands during weekends and holidays. Many groups use the open waterfront promenade as a meeting point before exploring the attractions or simply enjoying the view over the lake.

Most rides suit children from around three years old onward, while some are also accessible for younger guests. You can reach the attractions easily on foot from the pier entrance, as the entire complex is pedestrian-friendly.

The large zip line carries visitors over part of the pier and allows a brief flight above the heads of other guests. Another notable feature is the carousel with hand-painted figures that follow the tradition of old American fairground wagons.
