Field Station: Dinosaurs
Field Station: Dinosaurs was a recreation area in Leonia featuring more than 30 animated lifesize dinosaur models scattered across the grounds, each capable of moving and making sounds. Visitors could walk along trails through the space to view the models up close, with informational signs providing facts about each creature.
The attraction was originally established in Secaucus before relocating to Leonia in 2016 to reach a new audience. A shift to nonprofit status in recent years aimed to secure long-term operations through donations and grants.
The park served as a place where families could discover prehistoric creatures together, making ancient times feel tangible and closer to everyday experience. The lifesize models allowed visitors to form a direct impression of these animals in ways that books or traditional museums typically cannot offer.
The park operated from May through November with varying hours depending on the day and season, and closed during winter months. On rainy or windy days it could close early for safety reasons, so checking hours ahead of time was important for planning a visit.
The park hosted special after-dark sessions where visitors could walk the grounds in the evening with flashlights, experiencing the dinosaurs under artificial light in a different way. These events often concluded with campfires and treats like s'mores, adding a memorable twist to the typical daytime visit.
