Flat Rock Brook Nature Center, Nature center in Bergen County, United States
Flat Rock Brook Nature Center is a 150-acre preserve with trails winding through forests, past streams, wetlands, ponds, and meadows across the natural landscape. The facility includes an indoor visitor center with exhibits and outdoor spaces where people can explore the local environment.
The nature center was established in 1973 as an environmental education facility serving northern New Jersey. Since its founding, it has maintained its mission to connect people with the natural world in this region.
The indoor Walk in the Woods exhibit shows visitors what local habitats look like through displays featuring resident birds, turtles, and fish species found in the region. The exhibit helps people understand the animals and plants that make this preserve their home.
The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM and weekends from 1 PM to 5 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. The trails are well-maintained and accessible to visitors of different abilities, with the main entrance at 443 Van Nostrand Avenue.
The center underwent improvements in 2023 with funding that went toward repairing and rebuilding bridges along the trails, making it easier to cross streams and wetlands. These upgrades enhanced how visitors can move safely through different sections of the preserve.
