Khndzoresk Swinging Bridge, Suspension bridge in Khndzoresk, Armenia.
Khndzoresk Swinging Bridge is a steel structure spanning a deep gorge between the cave-dwelling section and the newer settlement. The bridge hangs above the ground, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to move between the two village areas.
The bridge was built in 2012 to reconnect the ancient cave settlement where people lived until the 1950s with the modern village. The project required collaboration to create a physical link between two different periods of village life.
The bridge represents the bond between villagers who worked together on this project. It visibly connects the world of the cave dwellers with modern life in a way that people can experience when they cross.
Reaching the bridge requires descending many stairs. It is best to wear comfortable shoes and allow time for the climb back up.
With each step the bridge moves and sways slightly, creating an intense feeling during the crossing. This movement is intentional by design and shows how the structure must flex to span the wide gap.
