Kudluteertha Falls, Waterfall in the Western Ghats, Hebri taluku, India

Kudluteertha Falls, also known as Sita Falls, is a waterfall set deep in the forests of the Western Ghats near Hebri, in the Indian state of Karnataka. The water drops from a tall rocky cliff into a pool at the base, surrounded by dense forest on all sides.

Local tradition holds that sages once came to this spot to meditate, which gave the waterfall and its pool a sense of sacred meaning over time. This connection to contemplative practice has shaped how the local community has visited and respected the site across generations.

Kudluteertha Falls is also known locally as Sita Falls, a name linked to the Hindu goddess Sita from the Ramayana. Many visitors approach the pool at the base with a sense of reverence, as the water there is considered sacred by the surrounding communities.

Reaching the falls requires a forest walk of roughly 4 kilometers from the bridge over the Sita River, along a trail that can be uneven and steep in places. Visitors should bring water, snacks, and insect repellent, as there are no shops nearby, and sturdy shoes are strongly advised.

Just above the main waterfall lies another one called Manga Theertha, which means Monkey Water, and it earned that name because the only way up to it is a steep climb that only monkeys can manage. This upper fall remains out of reach for visitors, making it one of the few waterfalls in the region that can be heard but never approached on foot.
