Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary

Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary spans 314 square kilometers of tropical wet evergreen forests and moist deciduous forests across Udupi and Shivamogga districts.

The sanctuary, established in 1974 with an initial area of 88 square kilometers, expanded to its current size through a governmental notification in 2011.

The sanctuary derives its name from Lord Someshwara, whose temple stands within the boundaries, connecting nature conservation with regional religious heritage.

The nearest access point is Hebri town, offering daily bus connections to major cities like Udupi, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru throughout the year.

The sanctuary houses the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, established in 2005, which specializes in studying king cobras within their natural environment.
