L'ile Penote

L'ile Penote is an artistic neighborhood where buildings feature elaborate mosaics created entirely from shells. These decorations cover the walls with scenes of the ocean, local creatures, and regional imagery throughout the streets.

A local artist began transforming the neighborhood in 1997 by decorating walls with shells, inspiring property owners to join the effort. This community-driven project gradually expanded and became a permanent fixture of the area.

The neighborhood serves as a gathering place where artists and visitors encounter handmade shell mosaics that tell stories of the sea and local life. The works transform ordinary walls into expressions of community creativity.

The neighborhood is walkable and easily accessible with nearby parking available. You can wander through at any time and often encounter artists actively working on creating or maintaining the shell mosaics.

The shell mosaics are made from shells collected locally along the beach, giving each artwork a connection to the ocean nearby. This means the decorations constantly evolve as new shells become available and artists refresh their designs.
