Ravin de Corboeuf

Ravin de Corboeuf is a natural ravine near Rosières with multicolored clay layers stacked in distinct horizontal bands across the rock faces. The site stretches across several kilometers with dramatic canyon walls formed entirely by these layered deposits.

The ravine incorporates sections of the former Galoche railway that ran between Lavoûte-sur-Loire and Voulte-sur-Rhône. This rail line was abandoned in 1952 and left physical marks on the landscape that visitors can still observe today.

Local residents call this ravine the Colorado of Auvergne because of its striped clay patterns. The colorful layers have become a defining feature that people recognize and remember about the landscape here.

The hiking trail starts from a free parking area near the gendarmerie in Rosières and loops through the ravine. The path is straightforward to follow and offers views of the rock formations from multiple angles along the way.

The clay deposits display an unusual combination of red, green, and blue layers that alternate in regular patterns across the cliff walls. This color variation is rare to find in this region and makes the site geologically distinctive.
