Cliffhanger Rooms is an escape room venue in Backbarrow, near Lake Windermere in the Lake District. It features three themed chambers with different challenges: Bank Vault Heist, Haunted Pirate Ship, and Vlad the Vampire, each designed for teams to solve puzzles within 60 minutes.
The venue opened inside a converted stone barn in the Lake District, a traditional building structure in this rural landscape. This adaptation brought contemporary entertainment to an older regional structure.
Each room draws from adventure narratives and storytelling traditions that keep players engaged throughout the experience. The scenarios use familiar themes like heists and mysteries, creating settings where teams work together to solve puzzles and uncover secrets.
The venue offers free parking near the entrance and accepts bookings throughout the week, including extended evening hours on Wednesdays. Teams can range from two to six players, making it easy to organize groups of various sizes.
The Bank Heist room draws inspiration from London's famous Hatton Garden, requiring players to decode security systems and find hidden mechanisms to reach the vault. This connection to a real London location adds an extra layer of intrigue to the gameplay.
