Torre Dei Contini

Torre dei Contini is a small observation tower standing on a steep hillside among vineyards in Canelli, Piedmont. The structure features stone balconies and rounded windows, and visitors climb an internal wooden staircase with wide, sturdy steps to reach the top.

The tower was built after 1585 and originally served to watch over and control the surrounding territory. By the 1800s, it came under the ownership of the Contini family, from whom it takes its present name.

The name recalls the Contini family, who owned the surrounding land in the 1800s. Today vineyards cover the hillside, and the locally grown Moscato d'Asti wine reflects how farming traditions have shaped this landscape across generations.

To visit, take a walk through the vineyards for about ten minutes along a path that climbs to the tower. The wooden stairs are wide and solid, making the ascent safe and manageable in any season.

The hillsides around this area were once covered by sea, and fossils of shells and ancient marine creatures millions of years old can still be found in the soil. These remains reveal that a completely different ecosystem once existed here.
