Plaża Miejska Augustów, Municipal beach on Lake Necko in Augustów, Poland
Plaża Miejska Augustów is a sandy beach on the shore of Lake Necko, in the center of Augustów, Poland. A long wooden pier extends into the lake and divides the water into several marked swimming areas, with changing facilities, equipment rentals, and a food service area on land.
This stretch of Lake Necko's shore was developed as a public bathing area during the 20th century, as Augustów grew into a popular summer destination in the Masurian lake region. The pier and supporting facilities were added over the following decades as visitor numbers rose.
For the people of Augustów, this beach is a natural part of summer life, where families, teenagers, and older residents all come to spend time by the water. The wooden pier is a meeting point in itself, where visitors stroll out over the lake at any hour of the day.
Lifeguards are on duty in the marked swimming zones during the summer season, and restrooms and changing facilities are available on site. Weekdays tend to be far less crowded than weekends, when visitors come from across the region.
The wooden pier here is one of the longest municipal bathing piers in Poland, reaching so far out that the shore looks distant from its end. At night it is lit up, giving it a very different look from the daytime version most visitors know.
