Alameda County Fairgrounds, fairground in Pleasanton, United States

Alameda County Fairgrounds is a large event space in Pleasanton, California, covering 267 acres with open grassy areas, many trees, and multiple buildings for gatherings. Its layout includes wide walkways, covered pavilions, a racetrack, and an on-site RV park, making it easy to move between different activities.

The property began as a gathering site in Pleasanton in 1912, after an earlier floral fair had started in Oakland in 1859. It has hosted annual fairs almost every year since then, pausing only during wartime when public gatherings were restricted.

During the annual fair, visitors see rows of food stalls serving grilled meats and sweets, laughing families near children's play areas, and local residents comparing handmade quilts or garden produce. Many people come back each year with the same group of friends or relatives, treating the outing as a fixed part of their summer.

Wear comfortable shoes because the site is large and you will walk a lot between buildings and outdoor areas. Arrive early for popular events to find parking more easily and avoid the busiest entry times.

Tucked into one corner of the grounds is the oldest one-mile horse racing track in the United States, built around 1858 by the sons of Spanish landowner Don Augustin Bernal. Many visitors walk past it without realizing they are standing beside a course where wealthy owners sent their horses to race more than a century and a half ago.
