Arusha Coffee Lodge, Hotel on a coffee farm near Arusha, Tanzania
Arusha Coffee Lodge is a hotel on the edge of a coffee farm near the town of Arusha, in northern Tanzania. The property is made up of converted farm buildings surrounded by coffee plants and gardens, with views toward Mount Meru.
The property dates back to the early 1900s, when the land was first developed as a coffee farm. The original farm buildings were kept and gradually converted into the hotel that guests visit today.
The lodge sits on a working coffee farm, and in the mornings guests can watch local workers picking coffee beans by hand in the surrounding fields. The smell of brewing coffee rises from the main house early each day, giving a direct sense of what the land has produced for generations.
The lodge is close to Arusha airport, making it a convenient first or last stop on a safari trip. Rooms and suites vary in size and layout, so it is worth asking about the differences when booking.
Some of the rooms, called Plantation Suites, have a working fireplace that guests can use on cooler evenings. This may come as a surprise given the location near the equator, but Arusha's elevation means nights can turn noticeably cool.
