Fateh Prakash Palace, Palace building in Girwa Tehsil, India
Fateh Prakash Palace is a palace building on the eastern shore of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, named after Maharana Fateh Prakash. The structure combines Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles with multi-story arches and features views of the lake and surrounding landscape from its courtyards and viewing areas.
The palace was built in the early 1900s under Maharana Fateh Prakash and served as a royal administrative center and event venue. Its construction reflects the independence of Rajput rulers who maintained their architectural identity during British colonial rule.
The palace belongs to the Mewar royal family, whose lineage spans over 400 years of regional rule. Today, the Maharana oversees hotels that preserve historic buildings and keep them open to visitors, ensuring the family's traditions remain part of daily life.
The palace is open to visitors all day throughout the week and sits about 26 kilometers from the airport and roughly 3 kilometers from the railway station. You can reach it by taxi, rental car, or local buses, with the cooler months from October to March offering the most comfortable visit.
The palace houses one of the world's largest crystal collections, including crystal tables, chairs, and even a crystal bed. These pieces were ordered in the 1870s but remained packed away for decades before being displayed to the public in the 1990s.
