Sakrisøy Rorbuer, Waterfront hotel in Moskenes, Norway.
Sakrisøy Rorbuer are traditional fishermen's cabins perched on stilts above the water on the north side of Moskenes island. The buildings face Reinefjord with views toward the mountains and have been fitted with modern amenities while keeping their historic exterior unchanged.
The cabins were built in 1874 to house fishermen during the winter cod season in the Lofoten archipelago. This season was the busiest time of year, when hundreds of workers lived in such temporary quarters.
These cabins embody the traditional way of life in the Lofoten, where fishermen once lived seasonally in simple dwellings. Today visitors experience these maritime roots through the original design and the closeness to water.
The cabins are located on a small island accessible on foot or by boat, so visitors should expect some walking time or a short boat ride. Access to the accommodations is via wooden walkways and narrow bridges that can become slippery in poor weather.
The location offers both midnight sun in summer and Northern Lights views in winter, making it a destination for both seasons. Photographers and nature enthusiasts often visit twice to experience both phenomena.
