Fort Charlotte, Military base in Saint Paul Parish, Antigua and Barbuda.

Fort Charlotte is a colonial-era military installation perched on a hilltop above Falmouth Harbour with sweeping views over the Caribbean Sea. The structure features stone walls, arched gateways, and various chambers that once housed soldiers, weapons, and supplies.

The British built this fortification in 1745 to secure control over Caribbean shipping routes and defend against pirates and rival powers. Over the centuries it played a central role in the region's military strategy.

The fort is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site that reflects colonial maritime power and trade networks across the Caribbean. Walking through the grounds, you sense how this location served as a key point for European control over the region.

The site is best explored in early morning or late afternoon when the sun is less intense and views are clearest. Sturdy footwear is essential since the grounds have uneven terrain and some areas have loose rubble.

Over time archaeologists have uncovered objects showing how soldiers lived here, including pottery and personal items. These discoveries provide a rare glimpse into everyday life within the fort's walls.
