Llogara Tunnel, road tunnel in Albania
Llogara Tunnel is a 5992 meter long road passage in southern Vlorë County that connects the coast with inland regions. It cuts through the mountains beneath high cliffs and dense forest, providing a straight route under the challenging terrain that travellers once had to navigate over the winding mountain pass.
Construction took place between late 2021 and mid-2024, making this the longest tunnel in Albania. The project marked a major shift in how travellers could cross the region, replacing the difficult and slow mountain pass route with a modern underground passage that opened officially in July 2024.
The drive through takes about 7 minutes with good lighting and wide lanes throughout. The tunnel is currently free to use, making it accessible to all travellers heading between the coast and inland areas.
The tunnel cuts travel time over Llogara Pass from over 30 minutes to just 7 minutes. This dramatic saving means visitors can reach the Albanian Riviera safely without battling the steep switchbacks that were once risky in bad weather.
