The Concourse, Chatswood, Cultural center in Chatswood, Australia.
The Concourse is a modern cultural building in Chatswood featuring a 1000-seat concert hall, a 500-seat theatre, exhibition spaces, and a library across multiple levels. The complex also includes retail shops, dining options, and two basement parking levels throughout its structure.
The site previously held the 1903 Willoughby Town Hall along with the Council Chambers, School of Arts, and a Masonic Lodge. Construction of the current complex began in 2008, replacing these older buildings that had served the community.
The venue hosts performances by the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, theatrical productions, and art exhibitions curated by local artists throughout the year. These events bring people together and make the space a gathering point for those interested in the arts.
The building provides two basement parking levels and several restaurants on site for visitors. Direct access to the Chatswood Transport Interchange makes arriving by public transportation straightforward and convenient.
The building was designed by FJMT architects using elevated terraces and geometric alignments to create visual connections between the different functional areas. These carefully planned spatial relationships allow visitors to discover how the various sections of the complex relate to one another.
