Windsor Downs Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in New South Wales, Australia.
Windsor Downs Nature Reserve is a protected area spanning approximately 363 hectares, featuring grasslands, open forests, and native habitats located between Windsor Downs and Bligh Park. The landscape combines different woodland types with open grassland zones that support various bird species and other wildlife.
The land served as grazing ground for Riverstone Meatworks until 1990, when the New South Wales government designated it as a protected nature reserve. This transformation marked a turning point in preserving the area's natural ecosystems.
The Darug people have a long history with this land, shown through evidence of their past campsites and stone tools that remain within the reserve.
The reserve can be accessed via well-marked trails including Mr Corns Trail from Sanctuary Drive, with opportunities for birdwatching on several routes. Paths are generally flat and suitable for different activity levels, so bring water and comfortable footwear for your visit.
The site protects one of the few remaining populations of the rare nodding geebung plant, found in very few other locations in the region. This uncommon species represents the ecological value of the reserve for botanical conservation.
