GCU Hendaye, Seaside campground in Hendaye, France
GCU Hendaye is a seaside campground in Hendaye with 90 camping spots spread across about 15,000 square meters. The pitches are arranged on different levels and offer views toward the Spanish coast and Jaizkibel mountain.
The camping was founded by the Groupement des Campeurs Universitaires to provide affordable outdoor accommodations for university members and their families. This initiative reflects an earlier movement to make outdoor leisure accessible to more people.
The campsite connects to local Basque traditions through vendors who bring fresh bread each morning. This creates a link to the everyday rhythms of the region.
The facility has two sanitary buildings with baby care areas and sports spaces for volleyball, plus barbecue zones with electrical connections. The campsite is built on multiple levels with many shaded spots, which helps with orientation and finding suitable locations.
Sixty individual shaded terraces form separate camping spots on different levels, creating private spaces with panoramic views of Hendaye beach. This tiered arrangement turns each spot into its own vantage point.
