The Source, Restaurant in the 20th arrondissement, Paris, France
La Source is a bistro on Rue du Surmelin in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, housed in a bright, simply decorated space. It serves a changing lunch menu with meat, fish, and vegetarian options, plus sharing plates in the evenings, all made in-house with seasonal produce.
The space was previously home to an old cafe called Le Quinze, which operated for years under a well-known beer brand sign. When the new team took over, they renovated the interior entirely and shifted the concept toward a seasonal bistro focused on homemade cooking.
La Source takes its name from the Surmelin river, which runs through the area and even has a water reservoir on the street outside. This connection to water shapes the restaurant's identity, reflected in a focus on seasonal cooking and natural wines.
The bistro is open daily from early morning until late at night, making it easy to stop by at almost any hour of the day. The terrace faces away from traffic, which makes eating outside more comfortable.
The kitchen at La Source is run entirely by women: Suzanne, a self-taught chef, and her colleague Louise prepare all the dishes. The menu changes often, and on Wednesdays and Fridays there is a special afternoon snack offer for children.
