La Bonne Franquette, French restaurant in Montmartre, Paris, France
La Bonne Franquette is a French restaurant located in the Montmartre neighborhood of Paris, France. It occupies a 16th-century house at the corner of rue des Saules and rue Saint-Rustique, with a facade that opens onto a terrace near the Clos Montmartre vineyard.
The building dates back to the 16th century and was originally known as 'Aux Billards en Bois'. In 1886, Vincent van Gogh painted his work 'La Guinguette' on the site, and the name La Bonne Franquette was adopted in 1925.
The name La Bonne Franquette refers to a French expression meaning simple and friendly sharing, and the motto 'Aimer, Manger, Boire et Chanter' is displayed on the facade. Inside, walls are covered with murals that recall the vineyards and windmills of Montmartre, and evening performances include accordion music and French songs.
The restaurant sits at the top of the Butte Montmartre, a short walk from the funicular and the Lamarck-Caulaincourt metro station. Visitors can reach it easily on foot from Place du Tertre, and the terrace offers a place to rest after climbing the hill.
The restaurant is a member of the République de Montmartre, a local association, and its cellar holds old vintages of Clos Montmartre wine sold for charity. The dining room can accommodate groups of up to 180 people for private events.
