Mount Ulia Trailhead, Coastal trailhead in Gros, Spain

Mount Ulia Trailhead begins with a steep staircase and ramp system, leading to a network of paths along the eastern coastline of San Sebastian. The surfaces transition from pavement to gravel and dirt, marked by red and white blazes for GR 121 and green signs for additional routes.

The trail connects to an ancient observation point from 1530, where watchers used bonfires to signal the presence of migrating whales to local hunters. This link to early whaling tradition shapes the historical meaning of the location.

The trail forms part of the Camino del Norte pilgrimage route, marked with yellow arrows that guide travelers along their journey into San Sebastian. This path has welcomed pilgrims for centuries and remains a meaningful passage for people walking on foot today.

Access is located at Zemoria Street 47, and the trail is clearly marked with red-white blazes and green signs. Wear sturdy footwear as the surface changes from stairs to gravel and dirt.

The trail system features remains of military fortifications, an abandoned mill, and remnants of an early 20th-century amusement park scattered along the routes. These layered remnants tell stories of different periods in the region.
