Tour de L`Horloge, Clock tower in Essaouira, Morocco
The Clock Tower rises 15 meters above the Medina with four clock faces positioned on each side of its white stone structure.
Built in 1764 during Essaouira's commercial peak, the tower received its clock mechanism in 1926 from French clockmaker Henri Lepaute.
The tower's Sherifian architectural style combines Moroccan and European elements, reflecting the multicultural influences in this former trading port.
Located at the heart of the Medina, the tower functions as a central meeting point and orientation landmark for visitors exploring the old city.
The clock mechanism remained silent for ten years until 2012, when local craftsmen restored it to working condition using traditional techniques.
